Dual processor testers needed

I’ve been reworking GasLight a little to untie it from iTunes’ timing mechanism. The rendering now takes place in a separate thread, which adds a couple of complications…

As a result, I need a few testers – I’m particularly interested in how it runs on dual processor systems.

Give it a try, resize the window a few times, stop & restart the visualiser, and generally try to break it. Let me know how it goes…

  1. Hi, I haven’t got a dual processor machine but tested it on a Rev A 12” PowerBook, and it seems much smoother. Especially the “icon zoom” when it’s started. Keep up the good work, can’t wait for the next release! — Matt P    Dec 16, 11:15 AM    #
  2. Hello,
First, let me say GasLight is awesome! Great job!

I suggest making the GasLight alogrythms an After Effects plug-in. I can practically guarentee you’d make a ton of money that way.

Here are my results with Gaslight thus far:

    Test machine Dual 2.0 GHz G5/1GB RAM/OS 10.3.6/iTunes 4.7 (v41)/GasLight Threaded

Resizing windows, logo animation, glow effects and general UI working solution work well. No crashes. iTunes takes 9% of processor useage with the visualizer off and up to 25% with visualizer on. Michael Critz    Dec 16, 01:08 PM    #
  3. Thanks for the testing, guys.

An After Effects plugin might be an interesting idea, but without my own copy of AE I might find it a bit tricky… :)
So, which of the UK graphics studios wants to hire me to make it?

  4. I have a dual 450 G4 running Panther, if this machine would be ok I would be willing to test. Your plug-in is way cool; it may be the best value “sitter” for my 10 year old. — david bricker    Dec 21, 01:32 AM    #
  5. The link above gave me the .27 version and versiontracker .31

    I’ll give it a run on a quicksilver…

    Rock On!!!

  6. Used Ver. .22 on my old iMac G4 worked great. I now have a Dual 2.5ghz G5 with 2gb ram and nVidia Gforce 6800 and…Hello! Just downloaded Ver. .25 (Thanks!) don’t see too much difference. Played with it for about an hour and it had seamless zoom switching , as well as seamless display sizing. Can’t wait to get a cinema display! Hope this helps. Keep up the quality work.
